Fruit for everyone

Fruit for everyone

Fruit for everyone

During my internship via AIESEC at the Sapa O’Chau school in Lao Cai (Vietnam) I lived and worked with these students the entire time.

That included having lunch and dinner with them. All they eat is rice, vegetables and chicken or fish. Therefore, they were suffering from a lack of nutrition. I decided that it was time to make a small change in their diets.

I took some photos of the fruit market in Sapa Town and the students having dinner. On social media, by email and on my weblog I explained their situations to my friends and family and asked for their help. After a week, I even got some messages from Vietnamese people living in the Netherlands who read my story online and wanted to donate money as well.

By doing so we easily raised enough money to buy every fruit for all the students for at least 26 weeks! One of the students goes to the market every day to get the fruit for the cheapest price possible. We hand it out to the students between lunch and dinner. The students seem very happy to have some variety in their diet. I am very pleased to make a change for a long(er) term. It is only a small gesture, but with a great impact on their health and happiness.
